Science - Starting our unit on plants
This week we started our unit about plants. We have starting this science unit by talking about seeds and examining lots of different types of seeds. To explore how plants grow we started by placing lima bean seeds in plastic baggies to see how their seed coat will split and begin to sprout! Over the next few weeks we will talk about what plants need to grow, the life cycle of a plant, and how seeds spread. We will also be performing a few different types of experiments, I hope to post pictures of each of these as they occur. Everyone is very excited about this unit, and we are looking forward to planting seeds and seeing how they grow!

Picture Day
Just a quick reminder that Monday, September 27th is picture day!! It is always so much fun to see students all dressed up fancy for their school pictures. Most years I try to read School Picture Day by Lyn Plourde. This silly story follows a girl as she lives through a rough day where nothing seems to go right! Hopefully we`ll all have a wonderful picture days and take some fabulous pictures.

R.O.C.K. STARS Assembly!!!!
Yesterday we had our very first school assembly. This assembly was to kick off our school wide R.O.C.K theme. R.O.C.K. is a acronym for Respect, Own my Choices, Cooperation, and Keep Safe. Over the last few weeks teachers have been teaching students procedures on how to behave in the cafeteria, hallway, and on the playground. Now students will be starting to earn tickets for making R.O.C.K. choices in these areas! As students earn tickets they will turn them into me to get their punch card punched. After they fill there card they will be allowed to shop at the R.O.C.K. Star store on Fridays. We all had a great time getting excited about making good choices.

Spelling!
This week is our first week of spelling. We have been working on the short -a vowel last week and this week. We have also talked about different short -a word families such as -at and -an. Please help your child studies these words throughout the week.
One of the tools that my students have always loved to use when studying their words is www.spellingcity.com. This website has games that use their spelling words for the week and also their sight words (which we will be working on throughout the year). The user name is my email address and the password is sls1dobson. I hope you find this site to be beneficial in your child`s studies!

Thank You!!!
I would like to thank all of you for your generosity, I am amazed at how many supplies came in last week! It is so wonderful to know that we will not be running out of glue this year. Because of how many packs of crayons that came in every student will be able to have their own pack! This is wonderful because it will help to cut back on the germ sharing! Once again thank you so very much!
